Calibrating your Silhouette

In this Silhouette Cameo tutorial, I show you how to calibrate your machine with version 3 of Silhouette Studio.

Note that the green squares you see on the screen are not actually printed when you print the calibration sheet. You do need to move the blade into the area where the green square would be so I don't know why Silhouette set this up this way, but don't think you're going crazy. They do not print.

Snap options

If things move differently from what you expect or you don't seem to have control over where things are placed when you move them or adjust things, you may have snap options turned on.

To change the snap option, click the Grid icon in the top right corner of your screen. The smaller red arrows in the image above show you the two snap options (Snap to Grid and Snap to Guides).

Turn them on or off depending on how you want the program to behave.

Update to version 3.3.277

If you are running version 3 of Silhouette Studio, have the Designer Edition, but the software is telling you it cannot open SVG files, you need to update to version 3.3.277

The software reports that no updates are available, but as you can see from the image above, version 3.3.277 definitely exists.

Installing an update to the software does not affect your DE status. The DE code simply unlocks additional features whereas software updates fix problems and add new features. New features may only be available with the DE (Designer Edition) of the software.

Installing updates and upgrading to the DE or BE (Business Edition) do not affect your files in any way.

The latest version is available here.

Firmware update for the new Cameo

If you have the new Cameo (the white one with the touch screen), you need to download and run the firmware update to be able to do print and cut projects. I don't know what else it changes because Silhouette has not posted any notes about what the firmware does on their web site.

You can get the firmware update at http://www.silhouetteamerica.com/firmware

Below is the video that walks you through the firmware update. The update portion starts at 10 minutes 50 seconds into the video.

Word art tutorial and Cameo 2 firmware update

In this Silhouette Cameo tutorial, I teach you how to use Tagul to create word art and then draw a line around the shape in Silhouette Studio to print and cut the design. I also walk you through downloading and installing the firmware update for the updated Cameo. Note that you need the firmware update to do print and cut projects with the new Cameo.
